For the Lord RPG, The Dark Ages could be the first ever Christian evangelical role-playing game system! It is rules-light and easy to get started. Character creation is the allocation of trait bonuses to Prowess, Awareness, Savvy, Spirit, Intellect & Social, then picking out weapons and gear and allotting them to 4 Light, 3 Medium and 2 Heavy, then adding a couple of skill bonuses! That's pretty much it. Unless you are of the clergy and want to get some Blessings like Heal, Protect and Bless. All of these are based off using a d20 + Trait + Die Ranks to beat a default of 12 or more based on what the game master decides or rolls for difficulty. The Dice Mechanics has a Die Rank system. Where you can add Die Rank bonuses for different factors. Gear bonus? High ground? Inspired Die? Aid? Skills? These all combine to Die Ranks. They then turn into a pool of dice, using d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 as a 5 group factor. So every 5th is a d12.16 Die Ranks of bonuses? No problem! That's {d12, d12, d12, d4}keep highest! And any die above 6 explodes, adding to the result, garnering better benefits! Why this type of 'complication'!? It replaces level limits! It replaces the need for a bunch of charts to see what does what. It's great for repair, upgrade rolls. It is used so one missionary can aid another with prayer, cooking, aid. It handles characters getting a bunch of over powered bonuses. It has no concern for how powerful enemies or beasts like challenge ratings. Players who have 80 game session characters can play with first timers with no problem. Though guiding them in their missionary work may be warranted! This game IS a fully developed RPG! It is intended to have as much adventure, combat, scary fantastical depictions as the best of them, BUT grounded in medieval history, church history, folklore, myth, legend and some fun extrapolation by the Grande Minister. It has a brutal combat system, easy to use, but with some additional grievous wounds that debilitate combatants in any harrowing encounter! It can be quite lethal! For there is no greater love than to lay one's own life down for they brother! However, this game gets even better! Not only do you go to a village to find out about the horrible dragon to defeat and treasure to gain!!! Not only!!! But here is the incredible and truthful scope of this unique Christian RPG... You discover the villagers worship the dragon! They sacrifice to the dragon! And they believe in it! Not only must you defeat their false god, but you must convert them, hopefully peacefully! Or must deal with their own dark plots and pagan ways! If that all succeeds, you then plant a beautiful church in their village and roll preaching and prayer to bring them into the light! To bring peace to their land!Classic OSR style role-playing!Simple rules! Dice Mechanic covers most!Grande Minister guide on pagan activities, plots to roll out & prep.Access to token & map piece minis as digital or printable available, but easy miniature rules.Minimal range or movement concerns, use common sense!Adventure! Brutal combat! Crypts, tombs, catacombs, dark forests, and more!Kids speaking the gospel! Or at least trying! Teens and adults too!Grande Ministers playing the pagans and the goofy sad worldviews! Lesson plans galore!Fellowship! If all that goes well, is blessed, then how about a ministry? Read more
